Program Add-On
Deep Root Fertilization for DFW Trees & Shrubs
Healthy trees are essential to a vibrant landscape. Deep root fertilization delivers organic nutrients straight to where your trees can actually use them — below the turf, at root depth. Deep Root Fertilization is an add-on to the Soil Building Program.
The Problem
Your trees are competing with your lawn
In a typical DFW back yard, turf roots and tree roots occupy the same few inches of the same compacted clay, and they are competing for the same water and the same nutrients. Turf usually wins, because it is denser and closer to the surface.
That is why a surface fertilization mostly feeds the grass. Nutrients applied at the top get taken up by turf before they travel far enough down to reach the root zone of an established tree — and in heavy clay that resists infiltration, they may never get there at all.
How It Works
We go below the turf
We use specialised equipment to inject liquid organic fertilizer directly into the root zone under pressure. That allows for maximum absorption where the roots actually are, rather than most of it being intercepted by surface turf or shed with runoff. The injection also relieves a small amount of compaction in the process, which helps water reach the same depth afterward.
What's Already Covered
Trees under fifteen feet are already in your plan
This matters: every Soil Building Program treatment covers your lawn, shrubs, flower beds, and trees up to fifteen feet. You’re not missing out on what you already pay for.
Deep root fertilization is for the established trees above that height — the mature canopy a surface application cannot reach. Insect and disease control for trees over fifteen feet is also an extended service rather than part of the base plan.
Scheduling
When to feed a mature tree
We schedule deep root feeding around the tree’s own growth cycle rather than the lawn calendar, and we will recommend timing when we assess your landscape. Trees showing active stress — thinning canopy, early leaf drop, upper-branch dieback — are worth looking at sooner rather than waiting for a season boundary.
Pricing
An extended service, priced per property
Deep root fertilization is an extended service with additional fees on top of your Soil Building Program plan, priced by the number and size of the trees involved. We will quote it when we assess the soil.
Common Questions
Lawn Care FAQs — DFW
Quick answers to what DFW homeowners ask us most often.
-
For trees up to fifteen feet, yes — those are covered in every plan. Above that height, a surface application struggles to reach the root zone, and mature trees are the ones most likely to be quietly nutrient-starved.
-
Look for a thinning canopy, leaves smaller than they used to be, early leaf drop, or dieback starting in the upper branches. Any of those is worth an assessment. We will also flag trees we are concerned about when we walk your property, whether or not you asked us to.
-
The fertilizer we inject is organic, consistent with the rest of our program. It is safe for children, pets and pollinators.
-
Injection sites are small and the turf closes over them quickly. We ask you to mark sprinkler heads and tell us where drip lines run, the same as we do for aeration.
-
Most mature trees benefit from an annual feeding. Trees recovering from real stress may need it more often for a period, and we will say so rather than selling you a schedule you do not need.
Feed your whole landscape
We'll assess your trees along with your lawn and tell you which ones would actually benefit.
