Best Gardens of Fall 2025
30 Years of DFW Organic Lawn Care
In 2027, Soils Alive will celebrate 30 years of DFW organic lawn care. In our next 30 years, we hope to continue helping homeowners create beautiful lawns, with fewer chemicals. We also hope to leave behind thousands of gardens. We hope to inspire people to build spaces where children can reconnect with nature. Spaces that offer new habitat for the Monarch butterfly, birds, and other wildlife.
When you plant a garden, it’s because you believe in tomorrow (to borrow from Audrey Hepbern). Our children are our hope in the future. And children need nature. Today’s child spends up to 44 hours a week in front of a screen, and less than 10 minutes a day playing outdoors (Children & Nature Network). Richard Louv describes Nature-Deficit Disorder in his book, Last Child in the Woods. He describes how Nature-Deficit Disorder affects children by contributing to “a diminished use of the senses, attention difficulties, conditions of obesity, and higher rates of emotional and physical illnesses.” We believe every child in DFW needs a space to call their own…. whether it’s at their home, at their school, or at a city park.
Inspiring Others
When you plant a garden, you make it a little bit easier for the next person. We believe that your garden will inspire others. What you learn from your garden you'll pass along to your neighbors, friends, family, and coworkers. When you create your garden, and share your design, you make it easier for others to imagine what their space could look like, too. That’s why we donate $200 to 4 school PTAs, for the very best 4 garden design submissions in Fall 2025 (when your school PTA places 20 or more orders for plants).
Please Submit by October 30th
To help support your PTA, and help other new gardeners get started, please share with us 3 photos: 1 of your garden before you prepared the area (what it used to look like), 1 of the garden after you install your plants, and 1 photo of your garden design on paper. Best Fall 2025 Butterfly Garden Awards will be announced November 14th.
