6 Reasons to Hire Soils Alive

DFW's cooler weather in September means it's time to prevent those cool-season lawn weeds from taking over. This new wave of weeds can last into spring. If you want a beautiful 2026 lawn, now's the time to start. Why hire Soils Alive? We're a local, family-owned company. We have over 700 Google reviews. Over 95% of these are 5 stars. That matters, because paying a cheap price for lawn care can result in serious damage to the lawn, costing $1500+ to repair.

It costs more to hire quality, but Soils Alive doesn't require an annual contract. You can cancel anytime. We earn your business every day, not just when you sign up. We don't have a corporate 1-800 number. When you have questions or concerns, you can reach your Account Manager by text, email, or call....right away. We offer a modern, scientific approach to lawn care that uses the very best of what organics can offer, with minimal use of herbicides. We support public school teachers, with our Butterfly Garden plant sale fundraisers. Order your plants by October 13th to build a garden this fall and help support Richardson ISD teachers.

"Cheap" Lawn Care is Expensive

Lawn care needs to be affordable. But not cheap. Fixing damage to your lawn can cost $1500 or more. That's because not treating fungal or insect damage correctly, early on, can cause the sod to die. Resodding can cost $1.50+ per square foot.

Fungal diseases like Take All Root Rot, Brown Patch, or Gray Leaf Spot require expert attention, and insects like grubs, chinch bugs, and mites also need to be treated early on to avoid damage spreading. If 20% of your 5000 SF lawn gets damaged, resodding can cost $1500+. With cheap lawn care, you “save” some money today…..but you end up spending that money later on, and then some.

No Annual Contract

Affordable lawn care with Soils Alive has no contract. You’re never stuck with us. We're a local, family-owned business. We work to keep your business every day you choose to hire us. We don't employ pushy salespeople to get you into an annual contract for a service you won’t love later on (but keep paying for).

We work to earn your trust, and we deliver on that trust every day. Cancel anytime. We bet if you give us a try that you’ll stay for awhile. Quality service doesn't need a contract. Be wary of contracts that lock you in with little hope of getting a refund (with lots and lots of fine print you probably don’t have time to read).

No Corporate 1-800 Number

You’re going to have questions about your lawn. Everybody does. With Soils Alive, you get to talk directly with your Account Manager, with 10 years of experience working with DFW lawns and landscapes. Your account manager is very familiar with the problems your lawn is facing right now. And the problems it will be facing next year. And the year after that.

We've seen thousands of lawns just like yours, and when you have a question or concern, you can skip the 1-800 number. Just text us, send us an email, or call your account manager directly. You won't be talking to a corporate call center. You’ll talk to a lawn care expert who lives here in DFW.

Your account manager offers recommendations that go beyond what other lawn care companies provide. We may suggest a different type of grass, extending your garden beds, putting in a hardscape (patio) or native plants, getting a sprinkler audit, adjusting your irrigation, trimming trees back, or doing a one-time fertilization to help a weak area of lawn recover (from fungal or winter damage).

Modern, Scientific Lawn Care

The chemical lawn used to be cutting-edge science. That was about 30 years ago. Times have changed. We now know the impact of excessive lawn chemicals on soil ecology. Overuse can make soil compaction worse, harming the health of grass roots which is so important for healthy turfgrass.

Soils Alive is on the cutting edge of modern, scientific lawn care. Our approach is organic-first and soil-up. Not just what the lawn looks like today, but how it’s performing and will look in the next few months. Using up to 80% less herbicide, by spot-treating weeds, is great for the environment, good for pets, children, and wildlife.

Our core services include our proprietary liquid compost, fertilization, weed control, and insect and disease treatment. We also offer core aerations, a drought-buster treatment using golf-course moisture management, to reduce your water bill, deep root feedings for trees, shrubs and flower beds, and organic soil dwelling insect prevention using beneficial nematodes. In some parts of DFW, we offer organic mosquito control that's safe for pets and kids.

Local, Honest Work

Over 95% of our Google reviews are 5 stars. When we make a mistake (we’re not perfect!), we take responsibility for it and make it right. Our technicians are carefully vetted, thoroughly trained, and they perform at a high level with honest work that’s documented properly. You deserve to get 100% of what you're paying for. Not 75%.

We don't have 10,000 employees. Our company owner talks to your lawn technician regularly, ensuring they provide you with our highest quality service. We're a bit old-fashioned: we think businesses should do what they say they’re going to do. That’s the standard we set for our team.

Supporting Our Communities in DFW

As we approach our 30th anniversary, Soils Alive is giving back. Did you know 20% of children struggle with mental health challenges? Spending time in nature can help. We believe kids want to spend more time outdoors, exploring nature, and that nature can be fun for kids. Kids need support from teachers, and our DFW teachers need support too.

That's why we support public schools with our native plant sale fundraisers. We sell native plants to help you save money on your water bill, and to help build gardens across DFW. Our modern, scientific approach to lawn care, using as many organic solutions as possible, allows you to create more habitat that supports wildlife biodiversity in your landscape. That means more backyards in DFW where kids can safely walk barefoot outdoors to learn, explore, and thrive.

What does it cost to hire Soils Alive?

If you have a 3000 square foot lawn, the price for weed control (7x a year), spring green-up fertilization (1x), and 6 annual treatments of our 100% organic Liquid Compost, including sales tax, is $50/month. $1.65 a day gets the job done correctly, giving you peace of mind knowing your lawn is being cared for by a locally-owned company who stands by the quality of their work. If you're a member of a public school PTA and volunteer 5 hours a year, you qualify to save $120 on your first year for just $40/month, $1.32 daily, including sales taxes.

For a 5000 square foot lawn, our Soil Starter Kit provides 6 annual treatments of Liquid Compost for $45/month. We can provide weed control with up to 80% less herbicide, 7 times a year, for $11/month add-on. To help your lawn green up quickly in the springtime, we can do a Spring Green-Up fertilization for $10/month add-on. These three services, with no annual contract, comes to $66/month for a 5000 square foot landscape. PTA Volunteers get this plan for $56/month for their first year.

Do you have a St. Augustine lawn in shade? We'd recommend our Boost & Defend or All-In plans. These plans include treatments for insects and fungal diseases, with the price already included. With our All-In plan, you avoid the extra charge if you need additional Service Call visits to your property. Is your lawn smaller (or larger) than 5000 square feet? Get a quote for your lawn today. We can measure the size of your lawn digitally and help you compare all of our lawn care plan options, so you can find the right plan that fits your needs.

Cheap Lawn Care Reviews

The reviews below are for other lawn care companies. We only highlight them here to help you avoid signing a 12-month contract for lawn care. It's better to pay as you go, so you can cancel anytime without any regrets. Make sure you get 100% of what you're paying for. If a technician can't come out to provide treatment, you should be notified about this in advance, not find out later that you paid and didn't get what you paid for. Be careful to make sure you cancel any auto-renewals in writing....before they kick in and charge you for another 12 month contract. Meet and talk with your lawn technician to make sure they have the training and experience to properly care for your home's lawn....one of the most important parts of your home's resale value. Cheap isn't affordable if it doesn't get the job done right.
