Watering Lawns: Rain reminder!
As we travel around the Dallas area visiting clients, we are seeing over-watering in both commercial and residential landscapes. Even with all the wonderful rain we are having, we are seeing irrigation systems running, which means their rain sensors may not be functioning properly.
When turf and landscapes are over-watered, fungal diseases such as Brown Patch,Sooty Mold, Dollar Spot and Take-All Patch can all become a big problem. Over-watering also encourages cool season weeds to germinate and take over! Up until the last day or so, it's still been relatively warm. These warm wet conditions are perfect for fungal diseases to infect your lawn and spread. Be sure to get out in your landscapes over the next day or so to check your irrigation system; make sure it's adjusted properly for winter watering. That means cutting back, or turning off the automated system and only running it manually as needed.
