Lawn Damage From Overseeding

Green gone wrong…

Does your lawn look like this? Have you been overseeding it with cool season grasses like rye or fescue? This is what can happen when you overseed into already stressed lawns. This lawn in particular was an already thin Bermuda lawn that was overseeded each winter for the last four years. The weak lawn just couldn’t handle the competition and has all but died out.

Cool-season grasses will compete with your warm-season grasses for water, nutrients and light. Overseeding your lawn year after year can cause serious damage, especially if the lawn is already stressed. Overseeding into a weak Bermuda lawn is a bad idea. Overseeding into a St. Augustine lawn is always a bad idea!
